The Perfect Bride: Wedding Makeup Magic
Wedding makeup can be tricky. It’s your big day, do you opt for something au natural or go for something a bit bolder to stand out? In this day and age, there really aren’t any rules. I always state the obvious, go with a look that makes you look and feel your best. Wedding pictures should look and feel timeless, avoiding trends will ensure your pictures remain just that. As a makeup artist who’s done his fair share of wedding makeup, I find that neutral or monochromatic taupe shades are a flattering way to add shape and definition to your complexion.
I often consider the rest of the wedding, accent colors, bride maids dresses, floral arrangements etc., to help guide what color to incorporate into the makeup look. Fresh, flawless skin with rosy cheeks and pout never disappoint. Take it a step further and try a classic red lip, pair it with liner and lashes and you create an entirely different mood perfect for an edgier bride. Here are a few of my top tips to help guide you on your special day.
Ultimate Wedding Prep: You’ll want to provide as much hydration to the skin before you apply any makeup. I find that starting with Shiseidos Treatment Softner Enriched, smooths, softens and plumps the skin. Followed by Biossance Squalane + Marine Algae Eye Cream, instantly lifts and brightens, which makes it perfect for concealer application. The Squalane + Vitamin C Rose Oil, brighten, firm and hydrate all in one step. In my last step I finish the skin with Augustinus Bader, The Rich Cream, Intensely luxurious, hydrating and gives the skin the most beautiful glow.
Blushing Bride: take your blush and drape it across your cheeks and up towards your temples for a youthful flush. For this entire look I used Pat McGrath’s Divine Blush collection and started with Lovestruck blush, it’s featherlight and allows you to build and layer. To add luminosity apply Divine Glow Highlighter from cheekbones to décolletage, the luxe satiny powder imbues everything it touches, you’ll literally be lit from within. Eyes are kept minimal by sweeping a sheer layer of Moon Light Liaison from the Venus in Fleurs Luxe Quad: Voyeuristic Vixen I finished the look with the Matte Trance lipstick in Dream Lover.
Softly Sculpted: To add dimension to the complexion try a cream contour like Makeup By Mario’s Soft Sculpt stick in Light Medium, it’s the perfect shade to contour with and the creaminess allows it to blend like a dream. A soft pop of color in Earthy Pink is the perfect way to add a healthy flush to the cheeks and lips. To finish and add a natural sun-kissed look I blended the Soft Sculpt Bronzer in Medium all around the perimeter of the face.
