Mask Makeup Must-Haves!
With the warmer weather approaching, we see an increasing need for keeping makeup straight, neat and presentable, more so than you would normally need during this time of year.
Wearing masks during the COVID Era has made this process more difficult, as a mask can make it very hard to keep makeup from being rubbed off or smeared after it has been applied. Example: You do your hair and makeup, leave to go to dinner, put on your mask while entering the restaurant, and by the time you sit down at your table and take your mask off, it’s rubbed off the makeup you worked so hard to apply. This is most prevalent on the nose and chin, where makeup is more likely to become smeared or clustered.
Due to this new set of circumstances, I set out to find a routine that would minimize the loss, smearing, and displacement of makeup due to wearing a mask!
After some research, trial and error, I found that my perfect combination for minimal makeup disturbance while masked are the following: Benefit The POREfessional Matte Rescue Mattifying Gel Primer, TOO FACED Born This Way Undetectable Medium-to-Full Coverage Powder Foundation, and The POREfessional Super Setter setting spray.
Benefit’s The POREfessional primer (any of the available formulations) has been my go-to primer for years because it helps with my oily skin. It is a gel formula that dries quickly, blurs pores, and provides a great canvas for foundation application.
TOO FACED Born This Way powder foundation is beautifully packaged, and comes with a sponge applicator below the powder in the container. It claims to control shine, blur imperfections, and be wearable for up to 12 hours. It can be used alone or over liquid foundation to set makeup or add additional coverage, if desired. It comes in 15 shades, so the colors are a bit limited. I have found that it does control oil and I’ve subjected it to the Over 12-Hour Wear Test and I give it a 10/10.
Benefit’s The POREfessional Super Setter setting spray is a new product for me that I recently discovered at Ulta. I purchased the travel size (because I saw it while waiting to check out) to test it. As it lives up to expectations, I will be going back for the full-sized bottle once the trial-sized bottle runs out. I spray this setting spray over the TOO FACED powder foundation and let it dry, and then apply another thin layer of powder foundation. I find that it stays in place for hours, even when I have to put my mask on and take it off several times during the day.
This combination has been my favorite throughout the last few months, and I hope that it is as helpful to others as it has been for me.
Granted, you still have to be careful when putting your mask on or removing it, and it has been the one combination I don’t find myself having to touch up every time the mask comes off.
