Makeup Removal Made Easy
Removing makeup can be one of the more arduous chores that a woman goes through each day. On the other hand, finding a remover that is easy to use as well as being safe for your skin should not be a chore. Here, we review products that fill the bill in both ways.
As makeup removers come in multiple forms, wipes, balms and oils, it is important to choose which is right for you and your skin. How should one choose? Mainly it depends on both your preference and your skin type. Check out these products by Yes To Tomatoes, It Cosmetics, and Tatcha! While they all work differently, they all get the job done.
While makeup cleansing wipes can be purchased literally anywhere, some of these products can be harsh on the skin and cause drying or burning for those with more sensitive skin. So, a little digging around amongst this plethora of products can be most beneficial to your skin.
One hidden gem amongst all of the big brand names, that is also perfect for all skin types and doesn’t irritate the skin is Yes To Tomatoes Blemish Clearing Wipes. It was an accidental find for me, but a quick head-over-heels in love relationship was formed after the first use. These wipes assist in clearing current acne and preventing future breakouts through the use of salicylic acid and tomato extract, which provides antioxidants and reduces sebum. The tomato extract is extremely helpful for those with moderate to extremely oily skin, and the good news it it doesn’t cause over-drying for those with normal to combination skin. They’re quick and easy, remove even waterproof makeup, and are easy to stow away in one’s bag for on-the-go use! Since they are available at several drug stores and super centers, they’re always convenient and easy to find.

The Bye Bye Makeup Cleansing Balm comes in a jar and has a very thick consistency. It’s used on a dry face by scooping out some of the product and massaging it in circular motions over the areas of skin that have makeup (yes, even the eyes). The product becomes more fluid when heated up and you can literally see the makeup melting away (which is very satisfying). After all of the makeup looks emulsified, rinse with warm water or use a warm wash cloth to remove the product from the skin. Just like magic, all the makeup is gone! This particular balm also provides moisture and has anti-aging benefits. If you haven’t done so already, give it a try!
It Cosmetics Bye Bye Makeup Cleansing Balm – Available at Ulta
This product is an oil cleanser that works very similarly to a balm. It is used in the same way: on a dry face, massage the oil into the skin in circular motions, and watch as the makeup emulsifies. One advantage of this product over the It Cosmetics balm is that when used to remove eye makeup, rather than having to warm up to become more of a liquid than a balm, it glides over and doesn’t tug, so less damage is done to the eye area. Tatcha includes Japanese Camellia oil, which is rich in vitamins and omega fatty acids, and the brand’s own proprietary complex of Hadasei-3. Hadasei-3 is made with rice, green tea, and algae and provides important amino acids and AHA’s (Alpha Hydroxy Acids), which help with skin regeneration. Since it’s oil-based, this product draws out other oils in the skin (oil attracts oil) without stripping the skin of natural moisture. In other words, this is perfect for those with oily skin year-round, but it’s also great for normal/combination skin for the Fall and Winter.
Tatcha The Camellia Oil 2-in-1 Makeup Remover and Cleanser – Available at Sephora
These are definitely my favorites in the Fall and Winter months, because they help the skin to retain moisture while effectively removing eye shadows, waterproof eyeliners, and mascaras without causing damage to the eye area from harsh rubbing. Never tried one of these types of cleansers before? Give them a try and let us know what cleansers you love in the comments section below!
